At Home Virtual Studio

In early 2020, Club Fitness reached out to my employer, Timmermann Group, with an idea of an “At Home Virtual Studio” for their website. This feature offers gym members trainer-led classes from their home or anywhere they have access to the internet.
There was an urgent need for this feature, as the physical gym locations would be closed due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
Training Video Library
The At Home Virtual Studio provides members with an ever growing library of training videos, guided workouts, classes, and nutritional tips. This is accomplished by providing video library administrators a simple, blog-like, way to manage videos. It also provides a solution for categorizing the videos, so gym members can find the workout they are looking for.
POS API Integration
Club Fitness had a technical requirement that At Home Virtual Studio member access was determined by the gym patron’s membership level. This was accomplished by integrating the website with the gym’s POS system. Using the point of sale’s REST API, I was able to securely request data about memberships to use as access control.
Migration To New Website
Because a website rebuild was already in the works, I had to plan for the At Home Virtual Studio’s inclusion in the new website. This was accomplished by building the feature as a WordPress Plugin. This allowed the functionality to appear on the existing site. Once the new website was complete, I was able to migrate the Virtual Studio functionality and system users without a hitch.
