Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc. is an association dedicated to the leadership, development and advancement of the Hot Mix Asphalt industry. They’re committed to ensuring that Hot Mix Asphalt paving is the most cost-effective, high quality paving available.
My Solution
As their organization continued to grow, their website wasn’t keeping pace with their communication goals. They needed a way to provide several pieces of information to their members in a clean, well-organized format. At the same time, they needed an easy way to update and maintain the website.
Website Design and Development
When designing their site, I selected a color palette that communicated Maryland. I accomplished this by choosing colors influenced by the Maryland state flag. The yellow, white and black all appear in the state flag and the black also ties in the color of asphalt.
Because the target audience works primarily in the field, I designed the site with a mobile-first approach. This design provided quick access to the prevailing monthly asphalt price, membership information, and industry resources and publications on their mobile devices.
The site is built with a custom theme, using the WordPress CMS. The theme consists of a boilerplate code system I developed using Bootstrap 3 and the Mmenu.js framework.
In addition, I extended WordPress using Custom Post Types to provide site administrators an easy way to keep association profiles organized in the site CMS.
Google Sheets Integration
The site’s functional requirements included quick access to the prevailing monthly price for asphalt. I accomplished this by integrating Google Sheets. A spreadsheet was created to provide the client edit access in a format they were familiar with. I embedded the sheet on the website, displaying the data in a user-friendly chart.
